The Equal Pay Blues
I found this song in the ‘Labour Party Songbook’ that my parents acquired in the 80s. I noticed most of them seemed never to have been recorded (and there is only one recording of the original lyrics to this song - ‘William Brown’) so recorded this one. It being the 80s, all the songs were either terrifying warnings against nuclear plants:
“Do you want to carry wounded babies in your wombs?
And do you want to end your lives crouched in fallout rooms?”
Or calls to organise (like in this song, it is the solution to everything) and it was kinda hilarious and charming but this was my favourite so I decided to write the chords and make it public.
I ask Thee for a thoughtful love,
Through constant watching wise,
To meet the glad with joyful smiles,
And to wipe the weeping eyes;
And a heart at leisure from itself
To soothe and sympathise.
